How to care for your clothes properly
Sustainable clothing is more than just a trend – it stands for responsibility, quality, and conscious living. And that's precisely why it deserves the right care. With a few simple but effective habits, you can not only save energy and water but also significantly extend the lifespan of your favorite Muntagnard items.
1. Wash less, air more
Not everything needs to go into the washing machine immediately. Often, airing out clothes thoroughly after wearing them is enough – especially for items like T-shirts, sweaters, or jackets. This saves resources and simultaneously protects fibers and colors.
2. Wash correctly – gently and sustainably
- Sort: Pay attention to color separation and wash similar materials together.
- Turn inside out: This protects prints and surfaces.
- Low temperatures: 30 °C is perfectly sufficient for most washes – modern detergents also work in cold water.
- Environmentally friendly detergent: Avoid aggressive ingredients like bleach, optical brighteners, or fabric softeners. A biodegradable, microplastic-free detergent is the better choice – for your clothes and for the environment.
- Dose rather than overdo: More detergent doesn't mean cleaner. Stick to the dosing recommendation – your laundry, the machine, and the environment will thank you.
3. Air dry instead of tumble drying
A tumble dryer puts a lot of stress on your clothes and consumes a lot of energy. Instead, let your items air dry – ideally in the shade to prevent fading. Gently reshape clothes after washing and hang them to dry or lay them flat, depending on the material.
4. Iron only if necessary
Many of our fabrics hardly wrinkle or smooth out by themselves when worn. If ironing is necessary, please observe the care labels. Less heat is more – especially for delicate natural fibers like LEGNA or cashmere.
5. Care by material – that makes all the difference
Each material has its own characteristics. Here's an overview of how to best care for individual Muntagnard fabrics:
- LEGNA (wood fibers): 30 °C, mild detergent, air dry – do not tumble dry.
- MANGOLA (cotton): 30–40 °C, no tumble dryer, iron at medium heat if necessary.
- LEGNA-MERINO (wood & merino): 30 °C on wool wash cycle, use wool detergent, dry flat.
- MIUtec (functional fabric): 30 °C, no fabric softener, air dry.
- LANA & ReWollution (wool coats and jackets): Airing is usually sufficient, professional cleaning if necessary.
- CASHMERE (cashmere): Hand wash or wool wash cycle at 30 °C, wool detergent, dry flat.
Conclusion:
With conscious washing, drying, and care, you not only contribute to the environment – you also ensure that your clothes bring you joy for a long time. Sustainability begins with selection – and is reflected in how you handle them.
